Southwestern Inspiration

In a world filled with jewelry and art, how do you make your work stand out? The answer goes beyond the materials you choose—it lies in the story you tell and how you share your creations with the world.

There’s something deeply satisfying about sketching a pattern and then carefully stitching together tiny seed beads, bringing that vision to life.

I draw inspiration from the Art Deco motifs of the Native American Southwest. When I saw the ETRO Spring 2015 fashion collection, I felt compelled to translate that inspiration into a beaded necklace.

In Native American cultures, colors hold meaning as deeply as the symbols themselves. White, often used as face paint, represents peace. Yellow symbolizes the warmth of the sun. And turquoise, one of the most cherished stones in Native American beadwork, is believed to bring strength and healing. According to legend, when the Great Creator finished shaping Mother Earth, he cast the remaining turquoise into the sky, blessing us with its brilliant blue.

The “symbols” in this design emerge through the interplay of colors. It evokes a feeling—one that I love to carry with me, honoring the rich cultures that surround and inspire me.
