I want to talk about your fashion style.

Do you have one?

Sometimes I get comments from potential clients about my jewelry…  they say – I’m not sure what to wear it with.

So I’m going to spend some time defining my style as a starting point of how to wear my jewelry designs.

style in a snap

time – we never have enough time.  So first and foremost I want a style that is easy to accomplish.

I spend a lot of my days now in jeans and a t-shirt.  But not everyday!  I like to dress for the occasion, but I don’t want to have a closet full of clothes that get worn only a few times.

I want to be able to mix and match staples that can be worn for a variety of occasions.

When I travel I like to take only a carry on bag.  (And I have spent 3 weeks in Europe doing just that.)

So I am going to put together a series of outfits utilizing some basic pieces to show you how I do it.

You probably have the key pieces in your wardrobe already.  And true style is knowing how to mix the right combinations FOR YOU.

I hope to show you how to achieve a style with minimal effort.  And eventually I want to talk about age appropriate fashion.

the Ladies Lunch

I am going to show you an outfit that suits my relaxed minimal style now.  And I would wear it to a lunch date.

The woman is wearing an outfit from Eileen Fisher – my go to designer.

  • First off – the jacket.  I prefer an unstructured jacket now.  I used to wear classic menswear suit jackets when I worked., but now a knit jacket is more versatile.  It’s great for travel too as you can roll it up.  And it looks great over a skirt or dress and even jeans.
  • Underneath the jacket I would wear a light weight sweater or long sleeve T shirt.
  • The pants are knit also but a heavy structured knit with a little stretch.  Sophisticated but easy to wear.  And I can wear them almost year round in Tucson.
  • I really don’t like the laced up shoe style so I have added a slide instead.
  • I love Coach bags and I prefer a slouchy style.
  • Finally I added a pair of my Desert Vista earrings.  Since these earrings are bold I would not wear any other jewelry, but I might add a scarf for a little color.

In January or February it would be one that I knit….

Here’s a variation…..

Are you on the list????

casual chic outfit for travel

casual chic travel outfit

In my last blog I shared some photos from my recent travel to the Basque Country.  So today I want to talk a little about what I wear when I travel.  This is a simple outfit that is very comfortable yet extremely chic.  I want something that is super comfortable especially on long overnight flights to Europe because I have to sleep in it.  For shoes I always choose flats because you never know when you have to run through an airport.  I like a large handbag when I travel and this one is great because it closes which is important when it goes through security.  And because the outfit is minimal a great statement necklace makes the look perfect.  Plus when you arrive to your destination you make a great impression.

What is style in fashion?

Style is expressing yourself through what you wear.

I love the girl’s “style” in the above picture.

I would like to wear that – then I think … ummmm I’m 69; but I think I could still carry it off.

Style should be ageless.

One doesn’t stop expressing herself just because of age.

Style is a state of mind

Street Fashion Style

#streetstyle – is a fashion style.   Street fashion is generally associated with youth culture, and is most often seen in major urban centers.  Mainstream fashion often appropriates street fashion trends as influences.  There seem to be an unlimited number of bloggers showing us pictures of what is being worn on the streets today.  That top picture was from a blog about street style.  The blog that started it all was The Sartorialist –  Scott Schuman’s wildly popular site which launched in 2005.  Schuman—who was lauded as one of the Time magazine’s Top 100 Design Influencers—often snaps well-dressed denizens throughout New York and Europe, and posts thoughtful, interesting photos. You won’t bait Schuman by by wearing wild outfits or head to-toe labels—his subjects tend to be rather restrained and organically stylish.

Phil Ohl is a “street style photographer.  His site is called Street Peeper.  Great photographs of very stylish people.

Face Hunter is another great photograpy site for street fashion

And the list goes on and on….

My Art Jewelry Style

I think my jewelry style matches my fashion style.  I tend to like eclectic pieces with lots of asymmetry.  I am using copper and silver more in my designs but still like to use my handmade beads along with semi precious stones.  I like bold pieces that are still understated if that is possible.

This year I plan on concentrating on small series of pieces as I explore more metal techniques.  So I hope you stay tuned.

Tell me …..  what is your style?

What kind of clothes and jewelry do you like to wear?

What kind of accessories do you like?

Working on Projects

I always have several projects that I am working on.

I sell my lampworked beads and jewelry.  So I am always working on beads for my jewelry designs which I sell in galleries and my online shops.

But I also love to work with seed beads in bead weaving projects.

I like to knit.

I dabble in art journaling…

So I find that I usually have several projects going at one time.

(and keeping them all under control is another topic)

Some projects are for me, some for gifts,  and some for my business……..
Today I want to talk about a cool project that I started that will be FOR ME!

Project: the Boho Trend look

The magazines have said it – and I couldn’t be happier

Boho is really in for spring this season.

And I have fallen in love with the Italian designer ETRO.
