I want to talk about your fashion style.

Do you have one?

Sometimes I get comments from potential clients about my jewelry…  they say – I’m not sure what to wear it with.

So I’m going to spend some time defining my style as a starting point of how to wear my jewelry designs.

style in a snap

time – we never have enough time.  So first and foremost I want a style that is easy to accomplish.

I spend a lot of my days now in jeans and a t-shirt.  But not everyday!  I like to dress for the occasion, but I don’t want to have a closet full of clothes that get worn only a few times.

I want to be able to mix and match staples that can be worn for a variety of occasions.

When I travel I like to take only a carry on bag.  (And I have spent 3 weeks in Europe doing just that.)

So I am going to put together a series of outfits utilizing some basic pieces to show you how I do it.

You probably have the key pieces in your wardrobe already.  And true style is knowing how to mix the right combinations FOR YOU.

I hope to show you how to achieve a style with minimal effort.  And eventually I want to talk about age appropriate fashion.

the Ladies Lunch

I am going to show you an outfit that suits my relaxed minimal style now.  And I would wear it to a lunch date.

The woman is wearing an outfit from Eileen Fisher – my go to designer.

  • First off – the jacket.  I prefer an unstructured jacket now.  I used to wear classic menswear suit jackets when I worked., but now a knit jacket is more versatile.  It’s great for travel too as you can roll it up.  And it looks great over a skirt or dress and even jeans.
  • Underneath the jacket I would wear a light weight sweater or long sleeve T shirt.
  • The pants are knit also but a heavy structured knit with a little stretch.  Sophisticated but easy to wear.  And I can wear them almost year round in Tucson.
  • I really don’t like the laced up shoe style so I have added a slide instead.
  • I love Coach bags and I prefer a slouchy style.
  • Finally I added a pair of my Desert Vista earrings.  Since these earrings are bold I would not wear any other jewelry, but I might add a scarf for a little color.

In January or February it would be one that I knit….

Here’s a variation…..

12 Spectacular Earrings Under $100 to add to your collection

Earrings – my go to accessory

Oh I am busy busy busy creating a dozen pair of spectacular earrings that I will be offering later this month…..  and all of them will be under $100.  And today I’m giving you just a tiny sneak peak.

I love earrings; and they are my go to accessory –  especially when I am in a hurry.  Of course you have also heard me say I hate to make earrings… and that is still true.  But I’m always up for a challenge.

a little history

Ear piercing is one of the oldest known forms of body modification, with artistic and written references from cultures around the world dating back to early history. Gold, Silver and Bronze hoop earrings were prevalent in the Minoan Civilization (2000–1600 BC).

An early evidence of earring-wearing is evident in the Biblical record. In Exodus 32:1–4, it is written that while Moses was up on Mount Sinai, the Israelites demanded that Aaron make a god for them. It is written that he commanded them to bring their sons’ and daughters’ earrings (and other pieces of jewelry) to him in order that he might comply with their demand.

Earrings became fashionable among courtiers and gentlemen in the 1590s during the English Renaissance. A document published in 1577 by clergyman William Harrison, Description of England, states “Some lusty courtiers and gentlemen of courage do wear either rings of gold, stones or pearls in their ears.”

Types of Earrings

Statement Earrings
…. can be defined as “Earrings which invite attention from others by demonstrating bold, original, and unique designs with innovative construction and material combinations”.

Stud earrings
The main characteristic of stud earrings is the appearance of floating on the ear or earlobe without a visible (from the front) point of connection. Studs are invariably constructed on the end of a post, which penetrates straight through the ear or earlobe. The post is held in place by a removable friction back or clutch. .

Hoop earrings
…. are circular or semi-circular in design, and look very similar to a ring.

Drop earrings
A drop earring attaches to the earlobe and features a gemstone or ornament that dangles down from a chain, hoop, or similar object. The length of these ornaments vary from the very short to the extravagantly long. Such earrings are occasionally known as droplet earrings, dangle earrings, or pendant earrings. They also include chandelier earrings, which branch out into elaborate, multi-level pendants.

Dangle earrings
…. are designed to flow from the bottoms of the earlobes, and are available in various lengths from a centimeter or two, all the way to brushing the shoulders. They are generally attached to the ear by the use of thin wires, which go through the earlobe and connect to themselves in a small hook at the back. A variation is the French hook design, which merely hangs from the earlobe without closure, although small plastic retainers are sometimes used on ends of French hooks.

So here is your sneak peak of an earring from the Desert Vista Collection….

Do you believe in the 80-20 rule?

Well, it’s true for my clothes – I wear 20% of my clothes 80% of the time.

This outfit is a favorite.  No time for jewelry except for a pair of statement earrings.  This look will work for a short flight to Chicago for the weekend too.  or NYC or Colorado Springs – where ever….

desert rain long drop statement earrings

desert rain creosote plant

Can you smell the rain?

In the desert I can smell the rain.

It’s fresh.  It’s clean.  It’s invigorating.

But of course it’s not the rain but the creosote bush.

This plant is the reason you can smell the rain in the desert.

Come visit the desert

And if it rains, go outside and take a whiff!

That smell has a name — petrichor.

It is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil
